Contrast therapy at home
Our oval cold water tub is designed for contrast therapy – alternating between a hot sauna or hot tub and cold water. The oval shape provides a comfortable and natural posture.
Key features
- Lower stress, better sleep: In a meta-analysis of 11 trials and 3,177 participants, stress was significantly lower 12 hours after cold immersion, alongside better sleep quality and quality of life. It's not an instant effect; it shows up hours later.
- Circulation swings, it doesn't "improve": Alternating hot and cold moves blood flow in opposite directions. Cold narrows the vessels, heat opens them back up. That's the physiological effect of contrast bathing, and we're not claiming more than that.
- Less soreness, not less inflammation: Across 17 small trials (366 participants), cold-water immersion reduced muscle soreness for up to four days after exercise compared with resting alone, though the trials were low quality. Worth knowing: taken right after lifting, it also appears to reduce the strength and muscle gained from that session, so it's better used on rest days or well after training.
What the studies don't show
- No measurable effect on immunity: The same research found no significant change in immune function after cold-water immersion, not immediately and not an hour later.
- Inflammation rises, it doesn't fall: Markers of inflammation go up straight after immersion and are still elevated an hour later.
- No weight or fat loss shown: Energy expenditure rises with cold exposure, but in the available research, body weight and body fat don't follow it down.
