Our 550L cold water tub is designed for contrast therapy – alternating between a hot sauna or hot tub and cold water. This compact tub fits easily into smaller spaces and requires less water to fill.
Key Features
- Lower stress, better sleep - A meta-analysis of 11 trials (3,177 participants) found measurably lower stress 12 hours after cold-water immersion, with improvements in sleep quality and quality of life. The effect shows up hours later, not immediately.
- A measurable swing, not a boost - Alternating hot and cold water produces a measurable swing in blood flow. Cold narrows the vessels, heat reopens them. We won't claim more than that.
- Less soreness after hard training - Pooled results from 17 trials (366 participants) show reduced muscle soreness at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after cold-water immersion versus rest, though the trials were small and their quality was low. One caveat worth knowing: cold water straight after a strength session appears to blunt the strength and muscle gained that day, so leave a gap or skip the plunge on lifting days.
What the Studies Don't Show
- No measurable effect on immunity - The same body of research found no significant change in immune function after cold-water immersion, immediately or an hour later.
- Inflammation goes up, not down - Inflammation markers rise right after immersion and remain elevated an hour later. The trials above measured less soreness, not less inflammation.
- No weight or fat loss shown - Cold exposure raises energy expenditure in the available research, but a resulting drop in body weight or fat hasn't been shown in people.
